Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Our Honey

Is all honey the same?

All honey is not the same. We carry 5 different honey varieties and they are
all different. The honey variety is based on the type of flower the bees are
able to extract the pollen from, this is dictated by the location of the
beehives. Bees will gather pollen from flowers of up to two miles away, but if
there is enough plants and flowers around them, they will stay closer to the
hive.

The honey will have some variability even throughout the seasons, so not
anyone batch of real pure raw honey will ever be exactly the same.

What makes your honey special?

We work closely with our beekeepers and trust their production process to be clean, honest, and safe. Our honey is never heated and only minimally filtered, so it keeps as much of its natural flavor, aroma, and character as possible. Our Black Mangrove Honey is especially unique—it's harvested near Florida's Mosquito Lagoon, an area with one of the highest densities of black mangroves in the U.S., which gives it an exceptionally pure and distinctive taste.

Do you sell anything other than honey?

Right now we focus on honey only, but as we grow we plan to introduce a small selection of complementary products that match our quality standards.

Where is your honey sourced from?

We are currently exclusively working with the beekeepers at Sun Splash based out of Edgewater. They harvest the honey at their farm and along the Mosquito Lagoon.

We only partner with beekeepers that we know we can trust to have the best quality honey and practices, so you can rest assure that you will get Pure Raw and unfiltered honey.

We plan to establish partnerships with more beekeepers that meet our criteria for quality as we grow.

Is your honey raw and unfiltered?

Yes. Our honey is not heated or pasteurized. It is only gently strained to remove larger bits of wax and hive material while preserving its natural enzymes, flavor, and character.

Does your honey contain any added sugar or flavoring?

No. Our honeys do not contain added sugars, syrups, flavorings, or artificial ingredients. Each variety’s flavor comes naturally from the flowers the bees visit. The only exception is our infused varieties, where we use real ingredients (such as Datil pepper) to create a flavored honey.

Do you sell multiple size options?

We offer 1 pound jars for every local honey variety. Because we know it is hard to chose from so many great options we have created our Honey Sampler Pack. The sampler pack includes 3 mini jars full of delicious honey. each mini jar is 1/3 pound. We offer the sample pack in two different options.

Option 1: Black Mangrove Honey, Gallberry Honey, and Wildflower Honey

Option 2: Black Mangrove Honey, Brazilian Pepper Honey, and Saw Palmetto Honey.

Storage & Crystallization

Why does honey crystallize?

Natural raw honey tends to crystallize over time. The water content, the balance of natural glucose and fructose, and tiny particles like pollen all affect how quickly it crystallizes. Each variety behaves a little differently. Crystallization is normal and does not mean your honey has gone bad.

If you'd like to learn more about why Real honey crystallizes, take a look at our blog post on the subject.

How do I make crystallized honey smooth again?

To gently return crystallized honey to a smoother state, place the jar in a bowl or pot of warm water and let it sit for several minutes. Stir occasionally and refresh the warm water as needed until the crystals dissolve. Avoid boiling water or microwaving on high heat, as very high temperatures can damage the natural qualities of raw honey.

How should I store my honey?

Store honey at room temperature in a tightly sealed container, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. There’s no need to refrigerate honey; in fact, refrigeration will make it crystallize faster and become very thick.

Allergies & Safety

Is local honey good for allergies?

Some people like to use local honey as a gentle, supportive habit during allergy season because it may contain tiny amounts of pollen from local plants and indeed serve as an aid for allergy and immunity. However, research on this is mixed, so it should be seen as a complementary practice, not a cure or replacement for medical treatment. Always follow your healthcare provider’s advice for managing allergies.

If Local Honey is used for allergy support it should always be raw and minimally filtered.

Can children under 1 year old have honey?

No. Honey should never be given to children under 12 months of age due to the risk of infant botulism. Once a child is over 1 year old, honey is generally considered safe unless otherwise advised by a pediatrician.

Is your honey safe for people with pollen allergies?

Our honey is minimally filtered and may contain trace amounts of pollen. Many people with seasonal allergies tolerate honey well and may even benefit from our honey, but if you have severe pollen allergies or any concerns, you should speak with your healthcare provider before adding honey to your routine.
